Constantia Nek Walk – A Scenic Trail to Table Mountain
The Constantia Nek Walk is a popular, moderate hike leading up to Table Mountain’s Back Table, offering breathtaking views and lush surroundings.
Start – Constantia Nek Parking Area
The trail begins at the Constantia Nek parking lot, a well-known starting point for various hikes. The wide gravel path ascends gradually, flanked by pine forests and fynbos, with occasional glimpses of the valley below.
Midway – Jeep Track & Scenic Views
The route follows an old jeep track, winding gently upward with expansive views of Hout Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Constantia vineyards. Along the way, hikers pass small streams and patches of indigenous forest.
Final Stretch – Reaching the Back Table
After about 1.5 to 2 hours, the trail flattens out, leading to De Villiers Dam, one of Table Mountain’s five reservoirs. Hikers can continue exploring the Aquila Rock viewpoint or extend the hike towards Maclear’s Beacon or the top of Kirstenbosch Gardens.
End – Return to Constantia Nek
The descent follows the same path back, offering a relaxed stroll with stunning scenery, completing a rewarding 3-4 hour round trip.
